The Blood of Reconciliation
One prayer we’re all familiar with is, ‘We cover ourselves with the Blood of Jesus’ or ‘We plead the Blood of Jesus on the roads.’ But have we ever stopped to ask why we were taught to plead the Blood? Every time the devil seeks to attack an individual, he begins by infiltrating their environment.
Pastor Adams shared a funny but vivid story —While at a hotel in a foreign country for a mission assignment, he was lying in bed when the thought came to him: “No one knows you here. Why not request one of the women of easy virtue you saw in the lobby earlier?” The thought persisted, but suddenly, the Word of God came alive in him: “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” (Hebrews 9:14). He leapt up, fetched a bowl of water, declared it the Blood of Jesus, and sprinkled it around the room. Instantly, a great calm settled over the space.
At a crime scene, even after blood has been cleaned, its residue often remains visible under UV light. Who knows how many acts of fornication had taken place in that room, on that bed? Room service might have done their cleaning, but sin left its residue, only cleanable by the Blood. “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy but I have come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly” – Jn. 10:10. This life (Zoe) is in the blood (Lev. 17:11).
“This is He that came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that bears witness because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one” – 1 Jn. 5:6-8. John the Baptist prophesied about Jesus; he said, “Indeed I baptise you with water unto repentance: but he that comes after me is mightier than I: he shall baptise you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire”. Water for repentance, the Spirit for renewal—but the blood for restoration. “For it pleased the Father; having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself” – Col. 1:19-20.
We engage the blood as described above: by pleading (Heb. 9:14): for places unreached naturally; “I plead the blood of Jesus upon this does; it represents all of Jesus and none of the writer”.
By sprinkling (Heb. 12:24): used externally on persons and objects (Exo. 12:7).
Finally, by drinking (Matt. 26:27-28): digested—partaking in the life of Christ in communion. These are mysteries, only accessible by those who believe. What will it be? Do you believe?
